Braided Bun Fanny Elssler China Doll
This black haried braided bun china head doll is referred to as Fany Elssler. Unlike the usual braided bun hairstyles, this doll
has a V shaped part instead of a single center part. The hair covers the ears smoothly and is pulled into a braided bun at the
mid back of the head. She is on a leather body and wears a period silk dress. She dates to the 1840s.
Fanny Elssler (1810-1884) was an Austrian born ballerina noted for her beauty as much as her dancing. She performed
professionally as early as 7 years of age. By 1845, having danced in France, Austria, Germany, England, United States and
Russia, she retired to Hamburg a very wealthy 35 year old.
