Meissen China Head Doll
This fully marked 15 inch Meissen china head doll is on an early cloth body with original socks.  The socks are stamped Sea Island
Cotton-British.  Sea Island cotton is a particularly long fiber cotton that can be grown only in Barbados and along the coastal islands
of the Carolinas.  After the Revolutionary War, England was not a large imported of American cotton, instead importing its cotton from
Sea Island.  It wasn't until the 1840s that France and England made cotton the King of the South.  This cloth body with leather arms
dates to the early 1800s.
