Rohmer China or Bisque Doll
Marie Antoinette Leontine Rohmer, born January 13,1829, became fascinated with doll making during the Exposition
Universelle in 1855. She studied the completely hand made dolls of Huret and the production line dolls of Jumeau. She
endeavored to create an "in-between" doll, one that was neither completely hand made nor completely production line with
more naturally positioning joints. She developed multiple improvements resulting in six patents between 1857-8. Her mother, a
seamstress of note at the time, created the clothing for the dolls displayed at the Exposition Universelle of 1867, where the
bronze prize was awarded to the Maison Rohmer".

This 17 inch Rohmer china teen is all original. Though she has a hairline along one temple and a chip on the finger of her right
hand, she is the quintessential young lady of the time. Her original cotton gown is trimmed in fringe. Her stylish hat is accented
with blue silk ribbon and flowers. She wears flat sold leather shoes.
