1870-1890 Mason and Taylor Wood Dolls of Vermont
Henry Mason and Luke Taylor held the patent for a doll head and neck joint. The head was made of
composition molded over wood. This construction prevented the expansion of the wood and the
subsequent flaking off of the painted faces. The bodies were made of turned poplar while the limbs were
rock maple or beech wood. The feet and hands were metal, usually lead or pewter. The feet were
generally painted blue. They were made in the 12 inch size only.
