Highland Mary China or Parian (untinted bisque) Doll
This 17 inch all original parian (untinted bisque) doll is referred to as Highland Mary.  Though often redressed as a
lady, she represents a girl.  This parian head is on a cloth body with bisque arms and legs.  Her original gown is in the
Regency style of the 1870s.
"Highland" Mary was born Mary Campbell (1763-1786).  She was described as "pleasant and winning though not a
beauty" by a contemporary.  She was tall, fair haired and blue eyed according to accounts.  To some she was the
inspiration and to others the bane of the poet Robert Burns.
