The Modern Girl Bride has carved flowers in her hair to complement
the more modern simple long silk pink gown.
There were many variations to the bride's hair from the carved flowers in
the Modern Girl Bride's hair, to the various carved flowers in the more
traditional brides' hair to the double bun seen in the bride to the right and
the young girl.
Three sets of traditional brides
and grooms. Left to right:
The Imperial traditional bride
with the medallions
embroidered in gold thread on
the bride costume and the
cone hat on the groom, the
traditional but not imperial
bride with the traditional hat on
the groom, the modern bride
(NOT the modern girl bride in
pink) with the hat without the
veil paired with the groom
whose queue is attached to
the hat--common after 1911.
Traditional Bride and Groom with gold thread medallions and
elaborate carving in the bride's hair.
The bride above has a traditional gown and
veil but it is not the Imperial medallion style.
She also has fancy carving on her hair. This
groom has his queue attached to his hat so
that he is in compliance with the 1911 law that
banned the queue yet his style is traditional.
The bride to the left is called the Modern
Bride (different from the Modern Girl Bride) as
she does not wear a veil.
This Door of Hope bride wore the modern
veil but has a single carved flower in her
bun instead of the elaborate circle of
flowers around the bun.
