Effanbee Patsy Family Composition Dolls
In 1928, Effanbee, the company created by Bernard Fleischaker and Hugo Baum, debuted Patsy, 14 inches of bobbed hair
childhood. And then the family-------
Patsy Jr, designed by Bernard Lipfert, appeared shortly after Patsy. She has been referred to as Patsy-kin, Patsy-kins,
Patsykin, Patsykins or Patsy Jr. No matter her name she was unique in several ways. She varied in size from 11-13 inches.
Initially she had molded hair, and when the fashion for the bob waned, with a wig. She had painted eyes until 1932 when her
eyes were replaced with glassine or metal.
In 1934 a slightly larger doll at 15 inches appeared as Patricia, a more grown up patsy. Patricia, as with Patsy, had various
sized "sisters". In 1935, Patricia, with a blonde or redhaired wig tied in braids was marketed as "Anne Shirley" (not to be
confused with the later marketed "Anne Shirley") in response to the Anne of Green Gables film which starred Ann Shirley.
Occasionally a black doll was made, possibly in response to the popular Topsy in Uncle tom's Cabin, popular at the time.
Equally unusual but occasionally found are the "twin brothers" of the various Patsys. The were the same mold and body of the
sister but wore boys factory clothing.
