Limbach Company
Often associated with the doll the Irish Queen, the Limbach factory is actually the base for the Greiner family doll dynasty.
Gotthelf Greiner, the Father of Thuringian Porcelain, developed a porcelain glaze and masse to make porcelain “like the
Meissen”. He was granted a concession to establish a factory in Limbach in 1761 that was cancelled in 1762. He was able
to establish his porcelain factory in Limbach in 1772. After his wife’s death in 1793, Gotthelf turned the factory over to his
three sons. Succession then ran to his grandson Victor Dressel in 1865. The factory closed in 1939. During the years the
Greiners established porcelain factories throughout Thuringia.
Though many dolls were not marked, some dolls were marked. The factory marks included mold numbers and the three-
leafed clover.
